The AP reports that Yankees skipper Joe Girardi confirmed yesterday that Derek Jeter has had cold symptoms since at least Monday. And yet Jeter heroically went 2-for-5 with a walk in Tuesday’s 10-1 nailbiter.
Girardi on Jeter:
...That’s just the type of player that Derek is. He’s tough. He’s doing everything he can to stay out there and help us win.
I mean he’s going through Ricolas in the dugout like Tito Francona goes through buckets of Double Bubble. He smells like a freakin’ koala bear, but now I’m starting to think that koala bears smell like champions.
It’s really just an inspiration. As great a run producer as Derek is, I gotta tell you, he’s an even greater
